Negative effects:
1. Forced assimilation of minority cultures into a nations majority culture
2. Ethnic cleansing,such as in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 1900's
3. The rise of extreme nationalistic movements, such as Nazism
4. Competition between nations leading to warfare
