positives and negative of the IR

Positives-

• Industry created many new jobs.
• workers won higher wages, shorter hours, better conditions.
• Overseers dand skilled workers rose to lower middle class. Factory owners and merchants formed upper middle class.
• factories brought job seekers to cities.
• Urban areas doubled, tripled, or quadrupled in size.

Negatives-

• Factories were dirty, unsafe, and dangerous.
• Factory bosses exercised harsh discipline.
• Upper class resented those in middle class who became wealthier than they were
• Cities lacked sanitery codes or building control.
• Housing, water, and social services were scarce.
• Epidemics swept throug the city.
